On Saturday November 7th CBS made history with Fedor Emelianenko on his network TV debut against Brett Rogers. Going into the fight with a 30-1 record Fedor is the man believed by many people to be the greatest fighter in MMA history.
Although he has beaten a virtual "who's who" of Mixed Martial Arts Fedor has been somewhat unknown (all of his fights have been outside of the UFC). On Saturday night 5.46 million people tuned in to watch Fedor vs. Rogers however, and for a majority of them this was their first time seeing Fedor fight. After knocking Brett Rogers out with a spectacular right cross, Fedor is sure to finally get the recognition he deserves.
It's worth pointing out that CBS began to build it's MMA audience with Kimbo Slice, peaking at 6.51 million viewers tuning in to see Kimbo Slice vs. James Thompson, and although CBS is now claiming to be happy to be distanced from Kimbo it certainly would never have taken the leap into MMA with an unheard of Fedor instead of a publicity machine like Kimbo Slice.
